Hydrow Spec Ad

Project Background

Hydrow is an American fitness tech brand that sells the Live Outdoor Reality (LOR) rowing machine, which aims to provide a realistic rowing experience at home, with workouts ranging from beginner to advanced.

This particular ad was running on Instagram and Facebook, with the intended run time being Dec. 7-14.

Revision

PRIMARY AD TEXT:

'Tis the season to give the gift of meditative movement. Order your Hydrow by Dec. 19th and get it by Dec. 24th. Order by Dec. 15th and get free standard delivery!

HEADLINE:

Feel The Hydrow High

DESCRIPTION (Not present in original ad):

Hydrow delivers on-river experiences in the comfort of your own home.

Areas to Improve

PRIMARY AD TEXT:

  1. The first sentence does not capture the reader's attention.

  2. There is not even a slight explanation of what the product does for the customer and it does not attempt to peak curiosity.

  3. While necessary, the layout of shipping information is dull and could be presented in a cleaner way.

HEADLINE:

  1. This particular headline is not bad and includes the use of the word "holidays" to make it more relevant, but it's a bit uninspiring and it could be more similar to a slogan in order to catch the eye of potential customers.

DESCRIPTION:

  1. There is no description present. A description can provide useful information to potential customers and can often lead to meaningful interactions that otherwise might not occur.

Creative Process and Objectives

PRIMARY AD TEXT:

  1. I used an attention-grabbing headline that includes two common holiday slogans while also giving some detail about the product to readers that are unfamiliar with the brand.

  2. I used the word "your" to make it more personable.

  3. Kept the ordering details short and sweet, and made the "standard delivery" note more appealing.

HEADLINE:

  1. I did some research into the brand and found a popular hashtag, #FeelTheHydrowHigh.

  2. Given its proximity to the button, I didn't want to include what is essentially another "Shop Now" directly to the left.

  3. I appreciate the use of alliteration, and it also fits as an imperative request to take action.

DESCRIPTION:

  1. I wrote more engaging copy that still maintains its conciseness.

  2. I told the reader what the product can do for them.

  3. Complements the ad image.

  4. Builds awareness and correlation in the reader's mind with the inclusion of the brand name.
